Only full-time, professional remodeling contractors are eligible for NARI certification. And because remodelers are not eligible for certification until they have been actively involved in the remodeling industry for at least five years, a homeowner knows that the NARI certified remodeling professional they hire has had a number of years to develop the experience and skills that can only be gained through extensive hands-on practice.

With over 1400 certified professionals holding nearly 1800 individual designations, NARI is a leader in certification of remodeling professionals.
Certifications are offered in the following specialized areas:
- Master Certified Remodeler (MCR): The highest level of certification NARI offers. Designed for professionals who have maintained their CR credential for a minimum of 10 years, hold another NARI certification and have demonstrated leadership within NARI or local community
- Certified Remodeler (CR): An experienced professional with a minimum of 5 years of remodeling experience, who provides a full range of remodeling services. Specialist and Associate certifications also available.
- Certified Kitchen and Bath Remodeler (CKBR): An experienced professional with a minimum of 5 years of remodeling experience, who provides remodeling services specific to bathrooms and kitchens.
- Certified Lead Carpenter (CLC): An experienced field professional with a minimum of 5 years of experience, who oversees the technical aspects of the project, including personnel management and material flow.
- Certified Remodeling Project Manager (CRPM): A professional overseeing the administrative aspects of a remodeling project: customer satisfaction, scheduling subcontractors, record-keeping, risk management, financial controls, etc.
- Universal Design Certified Professional (UDCP): A professional who creates renovations to improve ease of use, safety of users and caregivers, and accessibility.
